Colour boards

While reading the book I stumbled upon the poem “diponegoro” written by (1943) Chairil Anwar in it. To me, it symbolised the broader story of oppression; spoken in Indonesian, it would set the writing tone.

Visually I wanted to accompany this poem with a timeline spanning a day from sunrise until dusk, and a tension that builds with every shot. The colour boards became important for the animatic as the placement of the shot on the timeline determined its colour and lighting.
